Skiing Vacations for Kids

Take Your Kids to the Park: Winter Park

This winter, anyone who is considering a family ski vacation should consider Colorado's Winter Park. This 67-year old ski resort provides an infinite variety of terrain and off slope activities that will please the entire family. A visit to Winter Park ski resort is also an educational experience. Many of the trails, such Hughes, Cranmer and Alan Phipps have an interesting history associated with them. As you and your family explore the slopes of Winter Park, you can step back in time and learn about its fascinating history.

Getting there is Half the Fun!

Your family Winter Park ski vacation begins on the Winter Park Ski Train. As the train soars through the majestic peaks of the Rockies, your family will be able to view spectacular attractions such as the Flatirons and the South Boulder Canyons. Once you get to Winter Park, there's no need to worry about parking your car. The train takes you right to the resort.

Kid Friendly and Convenient

Winter Park is one of the few North American ski resorts that offer ski lesson for kids as young as three years old. The "Just Because I'm Three" program is for toilet-trained kids who do not need an afternoon nap. The program begins indoors, with instruction of basic skills. Once these skills are mastered, the kids go outdoors and apply them on snow. For kids age 3-4, there is a special program that is taught at the kids-only area on Mount Maury. Because of a recent remodeling of the Snoasis, kids in ski school now have their own lunchtime eating area. Kids and kids at heart who are practicing wedge turns should visit Discovery Park, which has a 20 acre learn-to-ski zone, complete with warming huts and a more than adequate number of restrooms.

If your kids like the park and pipes, why not make it a family affair? The 3.5 hour Parents and Kids Park and Pipes workshop allows you to learn new skills with your kids. The Winter Park ski resort also takes the hassle out of taking lessons. Parents can fulfill prearranged lift and lesson plans at the Winter Park Ski and Ride School Advanced Sales Fulfillment Center, which is located on the ground level of West Portal Station. This sure beats standing on line while filling out paperwork.

Off Slope Activities

When you need to take a break from skiing or snowboarding, your family can enjoy a day of snowshoeing, snowmobiling, tubing, ice skating or sleigh rides. After a tough day on the slopes, your family might enjoy a trip to the Hot Springs. Many years ago, the Ute Indians used the springs for bathing, relaxation, and spiritual renewal. Today, there are 22 pools and private baths as well as a new jet spa and outdoor oriental bath and solarium pool.

With a multitude of off and on slope activities, Winter Park Ski Resort is the perfect place for a Colorado family ski vacation!
