Hostels: For the Young and the Young at Heart
What? Stay at a hostel? Are you kidding? I haven’t done that since college! Chill out! Hostels have changed a good deal in the last few decades, and they can be a great choice for budget ski lodging. A number of ski areas have hostels that are conveniently located within a short driving distance to the mountain. In some cases, these hostels are actually more desirable than the local budget hotels.. Here is just a partial list of ski area hostels throughout the United States:

Oh Canada: Glorious and Cheap!
If someone was to tell you that you can find a ski in/ski out hostel at Big White Mountain, you might accuse them of lying. However, it behooves you to believe them. Aspen: Not Just for the Rich and Famous:

Other Types of Ski Area Affordable Lodging
If you can’t get excited about the whole hostel thing, there are options for affordable lodging at ski areas. These are often unadvertised, so you may have to do a bit of research. The Chain Gang: Okay, so they are a bit lacking in charm. But how much time are you really going to spend at your hotel? Many of the chain hotels have affordable lodging facilities that are located near ski areas. In addition to the chain hotels, it is sometimes possible to find small, family run motels and bed and breakfasts whose rates will not break the piggy bank.
Utah: The Secret of the Extended Stay
With rates as low as $59 a night, you can’t beat Extended Stay for affordable lodging. There is an Extended Stay in Midvale, which is close to Brighton Ski Area and Solitude, as well as one in Sandy, which is near Snowbird and Alta. Rooms have small kitchenettes, so you can save money on dining.
